Miscellaneous Fun

Pumpkins!

pumpkins  pumpkins
pumpkins witchy pumpkinpumpkins
Pattern was from Knitty and the yarn is Knit Picks Palette in various colors.
(For the witchy pumpkin, the hat pattern is based on one from Lion Brand and uses the same yarn, but has a Fun Fur trim.) I really liked this pattern as soon as I saw it. Felting is so much fun and this is quick and easy to make and I even designed the pattern for the faces myself!

Triaceratops

triceratops triceratops
Pattern found on Crochet Pattern Central. Yarn was random grey yarn in the apt, probably the same used for the R2D2 Hat
I made this for my friend Steph when she was having surgery. I wanted to send her a little package of silliness so this little dinosaur just fit the bill :) I also really like how gentle and sad he looks. It makes you just want to hug him!!

Finger Puppets

finger puppetsfinger puppets
Pattern from Knitty Finger Puppers, yarn was random stuff in the house
These were so fun to make. Insanely fast and easy. These were also part of Steph's pick-me-up package, and I believe they did the trick! :)

NaCro/KnitMo 2006

NaCro/KnitMo 06
Last November a bunch of my friends were all participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) and I felt a little left out. I'm not much of a writer, so I decided to make my own month: NaCro/KnitMo (National Crocheting/Knitting Month) where I made as many things out of yarn that I could. Pictured is the fruits of my labor. A nifty snowflake afghan for my sister & her husband, a pair of grey gloves for Chuck, a pair of Mitten-gloves (with the pattern altered slightly to have a different design and to have thumb flaps) also for my sister, a pair of Steelers colored socks for me to wear on game days, and a bunch of Crocheted Snowflake decorations.

As you can see, I had a pretty busy month. The afghan turned out awesomely, though a bit smaller than I expected. I was also surprised to discover at how long it took to sew it all together. I would like to make more afghans, but will probably write the patterns myself. Many of the patterns I found online were too "grandmotherly" and I'm too young to make stuff like that ;)

Halloween wreath  close-up of skull
Pattern is by Lion Brand, and the yarn used is Lion Wool in Pumpkin and Ebony for the wreath and Cotton-Ease in Snow for the skull
This was really fun and quick to make. Just crochet a whole bunch of leaves, felt them, crochet a little skull, stiffen it, glue it all to a wreath form and bam! You have a fun & festive Halloween wreath! I made this in a few hours (except felting and stiffening time) and highly recommend it for any crochet or felting beginners. Yay for rapid gradification! :)

chameleon in box  chameleon tail
right side of face  front view of face
Pattern is by Me! and the yarn used is Lion Brand Homespun in Colonial or Lagoon (I can't remember which and I lost the label).
This was really fun and quick to make. I made it for Fred for his b-day. He's a pretty big chameleon, as you can see when I was seeing if he'd fit in the shoebox for mailing. I made up the pattern, doing a single crochet in rounds, starting at the nose and going all around to the tail, stuffing it as I went along.

The ridges on the back and face were a single row of sc directly onto the finshed product. I'll probably post a rough version of the pattern on here soon--I know it'll be funky for other people to follow since I mainly write the patterns for myself and have strange notations. I'm always available for questions--if you do make one please email me and share the photos and tell me how it went!! :)

hackey sack  hackey sack  hackey sack
Pattern is based on this one and the yarn used is Cascade Fixation in #1300 Sunshine and 8990 Black.
Another fun and fast project. Made in just a few hours and it made for a fun gift. I used some bean-like craft filling though apparently the ball itself is a bit big for a hacky sack. ah, well. It was a first attempt, so now I know for next time. :)
